Learning is not monolithic

December 13, 2006

In her keynote, Lynne CHISHOLM outlined the problem that formal and non-formal / informal learning are often looked upon as rival concepts. “Learning is not monolithic. There are many different varieties of learning.” states Chisholm.

In order to distinguish between the different concepts of learning, one has to ask some key questions: Who is learning? Where? What? and How? By linking the answers to these questions, one finds out about what kind of learning occurs.

Chisholms presentation (ppt 443KB) provides further information.
