Participation at the Breakfast Table

December 12, 2006

Despite the fact that a large number of the audience was still “participating elsewhere, for example at the breakfast table” (Manfred ZENTNER), Mr.ZENTNER opened todays´ plenum with a controversial keynote.

According to Mr. Zentner, young people define different forms of procedures than adults. They define their own way of participating as well. The student movement in 1968 has not been regarded as a positive contribution to a liberalisation of society by adults and parents then. It was considered a riot and not a way of active participation of young people.

Time changes, society changes just as well. Certain actions of young people are their form of participation nowadays. Young people are consuming selectively, boycotting  certain companies or wearing t-shirts with political messages. That is participation in our days.
