Doomed to success

December 12, 2006

Before we adress the outcomes of yesterday’s workshops on “Youth Participation in political governance, information and democratic citizenship” (the presentations are taking place at the moment), let me express my enthusiasm for the spirit and the verve that has captured the participants.

At breakfast, I witnessed a scene that I perceive to be symptomatic for the drive of this conference. Among the ones in charge of presenting the outcomes of workshop No. 1 – all aged 20-25 -, a vital but professional discussion about the procedure of the presentation emerged. Surrounded by empty plates, cruddy cutlery and rumpled servicing, this group of four students gave evidence of what I see as crucial for every successful project – be it carried out by youths or adults – commitment.
